It has been a couple weeks since Mrs. Biegler had her baby, but the excitement is still buzzing around in my head with the small part I played in it. Many are not aware that Mrs. Biegler and I were in the same teaching program at UNL, so we shared a bond that only those who have experienced an intense learning experience can understand. This made being pregnant at the same time a fun, shared experience as we swapped symptoms, fears, and joys. Below is a picture of us as co-teachers during our final practicum at Goodrich Middle School before student teaching.

On Tuesday, January 21, Mrs. Biegler came into my office with a couple excited teachers around her saying it was time to go to the hospital. Her water had broken in class (without the notice of her students). After a quick trip to the bathroom for confirmation, she announced the news to her 7th graders who responded with a cheer. Knowing it was not a good idea for Mrs. Biegler to drive, I quickly volunteered to be her escort.

Although she was nervous, I spent the car ride listening to her calmly make calls to her husband and mom. I also took the time to interrogate her about everything she was going through, so I could mentally prepare for the same thing that will happen to me in only four months. We ended the car ride with reminiscing on her last teaching moment with her 7th graders--sentence structure, which has a special place in every English teacher's heart.

Once we got to her hospital room, I asked if she wanted me to stay until family came. She thought for a moment and decided starting a rosary would be the most comforting. That decision describes Mrs. Biegler perfectly--relying on God to bring her comfort and clarity in a time of excitement and fear. I hope I will be the same when I am in her place in May.
