Creepy Crawlers in the Classrooms

I like my share of creepers and crawlers--snakes, worms, butterflies, toads, etc. However, I was not prepared for the love of insects and rats that blossomed at St. Peter. The first I saw of this was within the second grade classroom. One unit sparked the entire school to scavenge for all types of bugs and insects--younger students looked forward to their year to shine while the older looked back with fond memories.

Not only did it spread among the ages, but it also spread to different classes. Pictured below are a few students researching some creepers and crawlers in Mrs. Noble's computer class.

Meanwhile, the fourth grade classes are in the midst of caring for two lovely rats named Junior Mint (Minty) and S'mores. Being able to see the students rally together at lunch to fill a small bowl with scraps from their own trays is simply heartwarming. I never thought that creating opportunities to learn the scientific method would bring out such maternal and paternal instincts. S'mores is pictured below settling in for a nap as Mrs. Dolezal begins a lesson.

The next adventure is waiting for these little larvae to first eat their scoop of nutrition in order to grow, form a chrysalis, and eventually be released as butterflies. Only God could create creatures that cause this much love and excitement!
