It has been tough holding in my excitement about becoming a mother in May, especially being surrounded by children and nurturing teachers. I first told the faculty and staff a few weeks ago, and their excitement and hugs were overwhelmingly supportive (in the best way!). A few gave me that motherly side glance and said, "I knew all along!" while others were utterly surprised.
I decided to wait until I had my first ultrasound before I told the students, so I had something tangible to show them. I am so glad I did because I could share the little dance my baby did when we first saw him/her and the beautiful sight of his/her fluttering heartbeat. The excitement was palpable in some classes while others responded with awkward or confused silence. However, once I showed them the pictures from my ultrasound and passed around a replica of an 11-week baby (thoughtfully provided by Mrs. Gina Steele), all were curious if it would be a boy or a girl and what the name would be. To their disappointment, I told them I would be waiting until the baby was born to find out the sex. I hinted at the name with the first letter of each--"O" for a boy and "M" for a girl--and may turn it into a fun contest. I usually left the classroom with students begging for more hints or asking if they were correct in their guesses. Like them, I also wanted the next six months to fly by so I could tell them!
Although it was so enjoyable to reveal the gift that God has given my husband and me to the students, it was my husband that I loved telling the most. Long story short, he was out of state for work the entire week, and I surprised him with this sign when he came down the airport escalator:
God is good!
